This was my first time painting infantry in the 15mm scale. I found it surprisingly enjoyable. These models have lots of detail and were pretty fun to paint. Unfortunately the small scale has not dramatically increased my painting speed. At the current rate it will take me about four hours to paint each team and it may take me a fair bit of time to finish the entire platoon. Nevertheless, I need to finish this platoon and a platoon of Heavy Mortars before a tournament in July. I am working away from home so there are no extra models or airbrushing to really distract me from the task.

Really nice job. I found it interesting too that even though they are smaller they take longer to paint. I found that completing the infantry in a production line helped with the speed. I like the stubble and the contrasts that you've achieved. Looking forward to more.
ReplyDeleteThanks minutiae. I was hoping you would stumble on these and comment. I found these models are a bit quicker than larger scale, but mostly because so much of them is one colour. It is a bit tough to think about how many individuals and how many hours it will take to finish a platoon at this rate. I'm glad you like the stubble and contrasts. I am finding it is a fine line between smooth blends that look too flat and highlights/contrast that look too silly. I've been trying to improve my work on the faces, but I am not planning to add eyes and things at the moment. I love how yours look though. These plastic models are so detailed that they have eye features so it is hard to approximate the eye area.
ReplyDeleteUniform = left; faces = right.
ReplyDeleteBut then, I'm rubbish with colour, so I'm relly not the best judge.
well done, by the way: these look smashing! Even if I somehow had time and talent enough (and I'm another slo-o-o-ow painter) I still wouldn't be bothered to paint my infantry in anything like this much detail. I actually really appreciate how drab and shapeless the British uniforms are!
Thanks Drax. The feedback is helpful. I am going to try to find a middle ground for the uniforms. I like the smooth blends but want enough highlighting for them to stand out on the table.
